7 DEFENDING PLAYSAll defences are emphasised by entering larger values for effort (among your defensive options). A value of 0 or 1 leaves the emphasis unchanged, but larger values work as simple multiples (so if a defence saves one yard when effort is 0 or 1 then it saves 2 yards with an effort of 2, 5 yards with and effort of 5, and so on). 7.1 DEFENCE DESCRIPTIONS DEEP DEFENCE (DD) Strong against kicks (shortens the yardage and improves the chance of recovering the ball) buit weak against everything else. GOAL LINE DEFENCE (GD) Reduces the variable yards by half the fixed yards and the fixed yards to zero. Increases the risk factor by one. Note: The yardage change isn't affected by effort, so for goal line defence you gain only the extra risk by putting in extra effort. HEAVY DEFENCE (HD) Reduces the fixed yards by one if the ball carrier is a forward, and increases the fixed yards by one if he's a back or half back. INSIDE DEFENCE (ID) Reduces the fixed yards by one if the play is inside/up the middle, and increases the fixed yards by one if it's not. LOOSE DEFENCE (LD) Increases both the fixed and variable yards by one (this increases the normal yardage but makes it more difficult to achieve a line break). OPEN DEFENCE (OD) Reduces the fixed yards by one if the play is outside/in the open field, and increases the fixed yards by one if it's not. PRESS DEFENCE (PD) Reduces the fixed yards by one if the ball carrier is a half back, and increases the fixed yards by one if he's a forward or back. SWARM DEFENCE (SD) Reduces the fixed yards by one if the play is an offload, and increases the fixed yards by one if it's not. TIGHT DEFENCE (TD) Reduces both the fixed and variable yards by one (this reduces the normal yardage, but increases the risk of a line break.) WIDE DEFENCE (WD) Reduces the fixed yards by one if the ball carrier is a back, and increases the fixed yards by one if he's a forward or half back. Next Chapter - 8. Game Reports |
